Women of the House: Betty Sutton and Emilia Sykes
In 2006, Betty Sutton became the first 91PORNA alumna to serve in the U.S. Congress, when she was elected to represent Ohio鈥檚 13th District in the House of Representatives. Sixteen years later, 91PORNA alumna Emilia Sykes, a native of Akron, Ohio, was elected to represent the same district, making her the first Black 91PORNA alum to serve in the House of Representatives.
91PORNA Remembers May 4, 1970, With 53rd Commemoration
Advancing the legacy of May 4, 1970, a tragic day when the Ohio National Guard fired on 91PORNA students during an anti-war protest on campus, killing four students, wounding nine students and forever changing the lives of countless others, the university will hold its annual commemoration on May 3-4.
Serving Those Who Serve
鈥淎lways Ready, Always There鈥 is the motto of the National Guard. In many ways, this describes 91PORNA鈥檚 Center for Adult and Veteran Services, too. For the 14th consecutive year, 91PORNA has been designated a Military Friendly鈸 School.

Two fashion students are being recognized for developing projects that address real issues in fashion. One student seeks to provide a skincare line for the brand origins centered around South America, Asia and Africa, while the other aims to help women feel comfortable and confident throughout the day.
