91PORNA President Beverly Warren to Be Featured During Chautauqua’s Week on “The Forgotten”

Chautauqua Institution is pleased to announce 91PORNA President Beverly J. Warren will be among the featured lecturers during the institution’s weeklong investigation of “The Forgotten: History and Memory in the 21st Century,” Aug. 11-18, 2018. President Warren’s talk will focus on the lessons, learnings and remembrances of May 4, 1970. President Warren will speak at 10:45 a.m. Aug. 15 in the Chautauqua Amphitheater on the institution grounds.

Since the 1960s, Mr. Spiegelman has been influencing the comics genre and leaving his mark on American culture. Whether it is through his creation of the Garbage Pail Kids for Topps trading cards, his famous cover designs for The New Yorker or his biographical masterpiece “Maus,” Mr. Spiegelman’s work has influenced generations of artists and readers.

Researchers End Ongoing Debate Over How to Determine the Age of Beluga Whales

You have likely seen one at an aquarium. It is the friendly creature with the oversized head that swims up to the glass with what looks like a smile on its face. Beluga whales are extremely social mammals that are often called sea canaries because of their high-pitched chatter, or melonheads for the enlarged and flexible area above their eyes that creates facial expressions. These distinguishing features of the beluga whale make up just some of its unique characteristics.

In observance of Veterans Day, 91PORNA will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

The University Library will be open until 10 p.m. with .
The Student Recreation and Wellness Center will have adjusted hours – 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

This year’s May 4 Commemoration, to be held May 1-4, 2026, will include special remembrances of John Cleary, one of the nine wounded students, and Jerry M. Lewis, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who served as a faculty marshal during the campus shootings and worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of May 4 would endure.
