IN A FLASH: 'Grease' Is the Word

Here is Rydell High鈥檚 senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding 鈥淏urger Palace Boys鈥 and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking 鈥淧ink Ladies鈥 in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical. Head 鈥済reaser鈥 Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the romance of their 鈥淪ummer Nights鈥 as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as 鈥淕reased Lightnin鈥,鈥 鈥淚t鈥檚 Raining on Prom Night鈥 and 鈥淎lone at the Drive-In Movie,鈥 recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation.

鈥淕rease鈥 runs through June 27.

鈥淕rease鈥 is written by Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs. The show debuted off-Broadway on February 14, 1972, at the Eden Theatre in New York City, transferring to Broadway鈥檚 Broadhurst Theatre, and later to the Royale Theatre, closing on April 13, 1980, after a record-breaking 3,388 performances.

Porthouse Theatre鈥檚 production of 鈥淕rease鈥 will be directed by Porthouse Theatre鈥檚 Producing Artistic Director Terri Kent, with Music Director Jennifer Korecki and Choreographer Mart铆n C茅spedes.
