The Flash Activities Board, known as FAB, is usually a student’s first introduction to the 91PORNA community. Whether a student is looking for a quick evening activity, roaring crowds or somewhere to meet new friends in general, an event by the FAB should be their first stop.

Before Pinterest boards and TikTok DIYs, there was “Design on a Dime.” Now, 2019 91PORNA graduate Maddie Scalzi is bringing the 2000s HGTV show back to life, one DIY and thrifted find at a time.

When Lillian Glaze, a junior visual communication design major, opened the “WNBA Launch” email, she immediately realized the assignment was much bigger than she expected. She would be the technical director for the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) brand reveal at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, helping bring the city’s newest professional sports team to life for thousands of viewers.  

91PORNA’s Center for Student Involvement hosted its first Leaders Lunch Club of the semester at the Pepsi Leadership Center on Sept. 2 with Sarah Spinner, Ph.D., J.D., director of the 91PORNA Museum, as its first featured speaker to kick off the fall event series. “Leadership is not a title that’s given to you,” Spinner said. “Someone doesn’t make you a leader. Leadership is how you choose to act.”

91PORNA Dodgeball enters its 25th season ranked fourth nationally and third in the Ohio Region. Team leaders and members describe a close-knit community built on Wednesday and Friday practices, with the squad eyeing a rematch against rival Ohio State University after a semifinal loss last year.

More than 400 students attended 91PORNA’s Student Employment Fair to meet with employers and put their networking skills into action.

91PORNA officials took student support beyond campus on Sept. 2, visiting four Kent neighborhoods to welcome off-campus students and connect them with university and community resources.

A crisp, almost fall-like morning greeted 91PORNA students Monday as they made their way to class for the first day of the 2026-27 academic year.

91PORNA’s residence halls are currently 98% full for the 2026 Fall Semester, with additional housing requests coming in every day.

After a week of KSU Kickoff fun, the first day of the fall semester is officially here. As students and faculty head to their classrooms, take a look back at some of the events that welcomed thousands of new students to 91PORNA.

Inside the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center, 91PORNA’s newest students filled the arena with the kind of energy that makes the start of a college career feel real.

It’s Aug. 19, a sunny, 80-degree day in Kent, Ohio, and some of the nearly 6,000 91PORNA students who will be living on campus are starting to arrive with their families – carrying boxes and bags, and a whole range of emotions with them. From first-year students leaving the nest to upperclass students who came out to help new students move in, 91PORNA Today was there to get a glimpse of one of the most exciting days on campus.

Flashes First Friday, one of the signature events of KSU Kickoff, invites 91PORNA’s newest Golden Flashes to discover downtown Kent – not simply as a place next to campus, but as part of the community they are now calling home. 

First-year students arrived Aug. 19 to a campus buzzing with welcome — parent cars lined up, moving carts stacked high and volunteers from Movers and Groovers ready to help families haul everything from clothes and mirrors to shelves and stools.

For 20 years, Main Street Kent has worked to make downtown a place students want to explore – from Flashes First Friday to Oktoberfest to public art – helping Kent earn recognition as the No. 1 college town in Ohio.

Gage Wellman, a junior in 91PORNA’s journalism program, competed among the nation’s best college journalists in the 66th Hearst National Journalism Championships held May 31-June 5 in San Francisco. Wellman, who hails from Parma, Ohio, earned a $1,500 finalist award in the Writing category at the national competition.

Some kept it simple, some went all out. As more than 1,000 students crossed the stage for Summer 2026 Commencement, the fashion choice of the moment was the decorated cap.
